Health promotion planning organizes actions to meet specific health goals through data-driven decisions and efficient use of resources (Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion [Public Health Ontario], 2018). Different planning types, like strategic, operational, and emergency planning, serve as roadmaps for setting objectives and timelines.
The Planning Health Promotion Programs: Introductory Workbook guides this process with a six-step model, emphasizing the importance of evaluation. New information may prompt adjustments to better support target populations. This workbook is a valuable tool for creating a thorough, community-centered health promotion plan focused on long-term goals. This week I used this tool to develop the following tip sheet to help guide health promotion planning.

It is important to remember that while the steps appear sequential, planning is an iterative process. New information may require revisiting earlier stages, adapting the plan to better serve target populations and evaluation planning is woven into each step, ensuring focus on long-term goals and desired outcomes throughout the process. This guide will help you navigate each planning stage to create a thorough, data-driven, and community-centered health promotion plan.
