As an Alberta Public Service (APS) employee, I am required to abide by the Code of Conduct and Ethics for the Public Service of Alberta. The code sets parameters for activities that may be viewed as a conflict of interest e.g., volunteering, teaching, accepting gifts. I am extremely cautious about posting on social media and I am careful about sharing work-related information with family and friends. Interactions with other professions within the Alberta provincial government varies, as it is based on the ministry and the position you hold.

When I worked as a Program Support Analyst with the Integrated Offender Management Initiative with Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services, I was part of an interdisciplinary team consisting of law enforcement officers from the Edmonton Police Service, Calgary Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mountain Police, criminal intelligence analysts, probation officers and community outreach workers. The program introduced collaborative case management strategies that provide prolific offenders with wrap-around services, in partnership with professions such as child protection workers, health practitioners (nurses, physicians, psychologists), as well as non-profit organizations, educational institutions and local businesses.
In my current role of Strategic Issues Manager for the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Status of Women, Creative and Community Development division, I provide strategic support which involves reviewing and fine-tuning briefing notes, meeting materials, cabinet packages and community grant packages, and providing executive advice to the senior leadership team. I occasionally interact with stakeholders who receive grants from the ministry and draft response to enquiries from the general public.

After reading the Unit 1 resources, reviewing other students’ insights, reflecting on my current digital competencies, social media presence and obligation to abide by the APS Code of Conduct, I will continue to keep my interactions on Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram to a minimum, and I will keep my settings private. However, I will work to strengthen my professional digital presence by engaging more strategically on LinkedIn such as liking, commenting and sharing credible posts and resources. I will also work to increase my engagement on X.
